Heseung is our fearless leader.

And that’s no joke—she really is fearless. About trying new ideas and blazing new paths. About always pushing us to excellence. Most of all about her convictions and sense of what’s right.

She’s an Ivy League psychologist who earned her stripes as a teacher, coach, counselor, mentor and nonprofit grantwriter and trustee.

If you want to see her break out into a smile, just ask her about her son.

Heseung is a magna cum laude graduate of Yale University and holds a master’s in education and doctorate in psychology from Harvard University.

Kilsary Abreu

  • A creative and persistent individual.

    Kilsary is an enthusiast with everything related to design, especially print and layout. Passionate about creating meaningful and purposeful projects, she strives for social changes in her community and personal life. She is a 2022 graduate of Cabrini University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in graphic design.

Kenn Bourne

  • A healing spirit with a gift for inspiring hope.

    Throughout his career as a social worker, Kenn has been able to connect with and support an incredibly diverse array of people.

    Whether it was as a social work intern at the PHMC Care Clinic in North Philadelphia, a street leader director at Urban Promise Ministries in Camden, or as a community intervention specialist at Drexel University’s Healing Hurt People, Kenn has shown he knows how to gain the trust of people in his charge.

    A Class of 2012 graduate of Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia, Kenneth Bourne II (“Kenn”) received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from Denison University and a Masters of Social Work from Rutgers University.

Omar Brown

  • Omar began his journey into the world of videography by moving from the outskirts of Philadelphia to Atlanta in 2016, with the goal of pursuing a career in cinematography. Since then, he has gained invaluable experience in the industry by honing his craft as a camera operator and LED technician on tour with major artists like New Edition and Lil Wayne.

Alexander Falconer

  • Building brand identities one typeface at a time.

    As a multidisciplinary designer, Alex provides thoughtful solutions to complex design and branding dilemmas. Leveraging a background in visual design, media production and communications, Alex utilizes his diverse skills and thoughtful strategic approach to help clients find, refine and reimagine their brand voices.

    After earning his degree in fine arts from Boston’s Emerson College, Alex found his niche as a design lead in the entertainment industry, working with major artists, independent record labels and media production houses to bring their visions to life. In his spare time he records music, makes art and pampers his cats.

Jose Ferran

  • A warrior for change. And for doing the right thing.

    Jose is a North Philly native who is committed to helping young people recognize and heal from trauma and violence.

    His expertise and passion help shape our approaches to reaching and informing audiences, and his unwavering devotion to promoting social justice makes him a great fit—and invaluable voice—for our team.

    Jose earned an associates degree from Esperanza College and a B.A from Temple University’s School of Social Work. He’s received specialized trauma-informed training at Drexel’s Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice, and serves as a mentor and trainer in their Healing Hurt People program.

Nyrell Griffith

  • The answer to the question, "Who can do it all?

    Nyrell has more than 15 years experience helping plan, shoot, and edit video projects across a variety of genres. With a passion for storytelling and deep technical expertise with sound, lighting, and a variety of camera brands and systems, he is an invaluable part of our video team.

Andrew Huth

  • Unearthing stories that would otherwise go untold.

    From war zones in the Middle East to under-served neighborhoods in Brazil, he’s traveled far and wide to tell stories through photography that need to be told. Andrew considers it a privilege to be invited into the lives of his subjects, and with patience and genuine interest, he is able to paint vivid pictures worth well more than a thousand words.

Jin David Kim

  • Always bringing his own perspective.

    Canadian-born journalist and filmmaker Jin David Kim has written for the Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, and has a background in politics, serving as communications director and political advisor to several Canadian politicians. He now uses his powers for good here in Philadelphia.

    Jin David graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Arts and was editor-in-chief of The Varsity, Canada’s largest student newspaper.

Jennifer Krout

  • The glue that holds us all together.

    She’s responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Mighty Engine, as well as overall project workflow. She also proves it’s possible for one person to be the office wit, the office mother, and the office curmudgeon—all at the same time.

    Prior to joining Mighty Engine, Jennifer spent six years at the Philadelphia Development Partnership, the region’s leading nonprofit provider of micro-loans and business support services to low- and moderate-income entrepreneurs.

    Jennifer studied journalism at York College and Temple University.

Temi Oshadiya

  • An intersectional storyteller.

    Born and raised in Nigeria, Temi has grown to understand the dangers of telling a single-sided story. It’s what fuels her passion for telling diverse, intersectional, and multidimensional stories. When she's not working, she enjoys engaging in tough conversations, writing screenplays, thinking of her next media project, and collaborating with other media professionals.

    She studied international journalism at the University of Missouri, and recently received her masters in media studies and production from Temple University, where she produced Sexuality Scarred, a documentary exploring black women's sexuality in mainstream media.

Nasir Pitts

  • A student of his environment. Nasir was raised in the heart of Philadelphia where he discovered his love of film. Now he is pursuing his love through his studies at Penn State University and by gathering as much experience as he can working on various film and video projects as a writer, director, editor and actor.

Steven Sonntag

  • A professional wordsmith.

    As our resident know-it-all, he has a knack for simplifying the complicated and bringing transparency to the opaque. Steven is responsible for overseeing all our content development—everything from communications plans to advertising and website copy.

    In addition to being a messaging expert, he is a lawyer with a background in nonprofit corporate law and has over ten years of senior management experience in the nonprofit sector.

    Steven has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Temple University, a master’s in public administration from Rutgers, and is a graduate of Temple Law School.

Makiah Stephens

  • Quiet, visionary and inspired by the world.

    Makiah centers her work around educational equity and participates in artistic activism, spearheading projects around cultural identity and appreciation.

    A recent graduate of Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in communications and media studies, she has prepared diligently for a career focused on making media and creating change.

    In her down time, she enjoys exploring the earth and discovering new music. She is keen on experiencing all that exists around her naturally and authentically. 

Matthew Uffalussy

  • A developer with the soul of a designer. And vice-versa.

    Over his 25 years designing and developing for the web, Matt has demonstrated a unique knack for integrating branding, strategy, system design, e-commerce and information architecture all within exceptional user experiences.

    He has been partnering with Mighty Engine on projects for more than 15 years, while also working on websites for clients like Def Jam Records and fashion icon Reem Acra, and online applications for major companies like Industry West and Condé Nast.

    Matt has a B.A.S. in Digital Media from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business.

Roman White

  • A storyteller on a mission.

    Roman began his career in broadcast journalism, and later shifted to freelance magazine writing. Through it all, he’s stayed true to his passion for music and sports. At Mighty Engine, he seeks to leverage what he loves and all he’s learned to expand education opportunities for historically underserved communities.

    He grew up in a household that always prioritized learning. Following his mother's lessons, this New Jersey native earned an associate's degree from Mercer County Community College and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ramapo College in 2016.

Tim Williams

  • Getting the perfect shot is his passion.

    A talent with both photography and videography, Tim prides himself on creating beautiful visuals for all clients. Among many other moments, he’s captured images of married couples wanting to savor their first forever kiss and videos of aspiring chefs who want their gourmet dish to look uniquely flavorful. Tim’s compelling imagery has become a staple to Mighty Engine’s visual brand.

Laureen Wong

  • A compassionate soul fueled by purpose.

    Laureen is a seasoned graphic designer with a passion for illustration and branding. She’s dedicated to creating compelling visual narratives, shaping distinctive brand identities, and constantly seeking new avenues for creativity. She is a 2015 graduate of Philadelphia University.
