Mighty Engine worked with the Philadelphia Marathon between 2008-2013. We were first brought on to boost the brand and create marketing strategies designed to raise the profile of the race among regional and national rivals. We began with branding: developing a memorable new logo and incorporating key messaging that emphasized, not only the course’s virtues, but also the city’s family-friendly atmosphere for runners and their loved ones who join them for the weekend to support and cheer them on.
Working together, we were able to help the Philadelphia Marathon surpass its registration goals, pull in elite runners, and put Philadelphia on the map as a top destination for both neophyte and serious runners. Mighty Engine also helped develop new marketing and revenue-generating strategies, some of which have since been adopted by other marathons.
By 2013, the event was maxing out registration earlier than ever, drawing a record 60,000+ spectators and generating an economic impact of more than $20 million for the city.
